What to Expect at True North:
A Fresh, New Start:
We are still a new church and had our first service
on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2007. We are a mission of
Hibernia Baptist Church with the goal of being a bold witness for Christ on
the Northside of Jacksonville.
A Hospitable Environment:
When you arrive at True North, you will find a
friendly atmosphere where someone is always there to
make you feel welcome. But maybe you're thinking,
"I'm not a morning person and don't really want to
see anyone at that hour!" Out of consideration for
our non-morning people we always have a hot cup of
coffee and a continental breakfast waiting on you. Our goal is to provide a
warm, hospitable environment where you will always
be accepted regardless of what race, class or
time-of-day preference you may lay claim to.
Casual Dress:
Dress is casual! Although people are fickle and
often judge us based on our outward appearance, God
is more concerned with with what you look like on
the inside (I Samuel 16:7). So following God's
example, we are not going to be impressed with how
you are dressed. We are concerned with
the condition of your heart. So by all means, dress
comfortably. We only ask that you dress modestly.
Music:
Our music is contemporary, but our faith is
traditional. We aim to select
hymns and praise choruses that are God-centered
because we are singing to God; He is our audience of
One. We also make sure that our selections are
Scripture saturated because music is after all one
of the most effective teaching tools we have.
The Bible even commands us to see to it that our
music reflects the word of Christ saying: "Let
the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and
admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing
psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with
thankfulness in your hearts to God" (Colossians
3:16).
Expositional
(verse-by-verse) preaching:
Our pastor teaches verse-by-verse through the Bible
because he holds the presupposition that God's word
(the Bible) is our sole authority for living and
interacting with the watching world. You cannot go
wrong with verse-by-verse teaching when II Timothy
3:16 tells us that "All scripture is inspired by
God" ("inspired" literally means "God-breathed"). As
you hear our pastor teach, we hope you will find
that although the Bible is more than 2,000 years
old, it is always relevant and up to date because
its author, Jesus Christ, schedules every date; He
is the same "yesterday, today and forever" (Hebrews
13:8).
When you come to True North Baptist Church, we hope
you will notice that we treat God's Word as our
compass because it always points to True North,
which is Jesus Christ, the only reference point
available who can lead you to safe harbor in the
arms of God (John 14:6).
Unfortunately, as sinners, we have all thrown this
compass to the wind, desiring to be free of its
constraints. Yet, without it, we have hopelessly
ended up flotsam and jetsam; shipwrecked on the sea
of life. However, when one receives Jesus Christ,
and for the first time discovers the value of this
compass, they are led to safe harbor as the Holy
Spirit enables them to trust and obey God's perfect
law revealed therein (Romans 8:4).
Maybe God has opened your eyes and caused you to see
your own inability to navigate the waters of this
disorienting age without a True North. You can ask
God to save you right now even as you sit at your
computer. Scroll up to the menu bar and click on
"Become a Christian" to read straight out of the
Bible how you can pray and ask God to save you right
now.
